CREW, initially known as Castlemilk Recovery Everyone Welcome, opened in September 2014.
CREW was developed through a conversation between lived experience recovery peers who aspired to bring recovery to a community which lacked any recovery initiatives and was experiencing issues associated with substance and alcohol misuse. The aim was to provide an open, safe, and therapeutic environment for individuals, families and the local community to come together and experience recovery whilst also engaging in activities such as badminton, table-tennis, arts & crafts, Yoga and holistic therapies themselves.
Following a consultation in early 2016 with members and participants a decision was made to move to Langside Halls in Shawlands to allow CREW to become more accessible. Castlemilk became Community Recovery Everyone Welcome and thrived at Langside Halls between May 2016 and May 2017. Due to the sudden closure of Langside Halls the dedicated volunteers found a new home at Govanhill Baths within a few weeks and continued to thrive. CREW is very much embedded within the local community and attracts new participants on a weekly basis. Activities on offer include a Women’s Art group, Acu-detox, Reiki, massage, recovery meeting, table tennis and BINGO. Childcare, provided by Children First, is available for the first hour and more recently CREW has run a series of swimming classes. A homemade 2 course meal is provided for a donation. CREW prides itself in creating an environment where individuals can feel safe to explore their own personal recovery journeys with the opportunity to become volunteers
